How Can I Use Self-Hypnosis and Visualization to Stop Smoking?

By Marcus Twain

To stop smoking there are many different methods you can use.  You can try the nicotine patch to stop smoking.  Many people tried other medication to assist them in stopping smoking.  You might have tried to rely on your own will power or quitting cold turkey.  Using all these methods you might have succeeded but probably failed in many cases.  It is now time to turn to self-hypnosis as a method to help you quit smoking.  Turning your views about smoking within your subconscious mind by using self-hypnosis is the most effective treatment to end your smoking addictions.

Some of the main components of self-hypnosis include relaxation, scripts, and visualization.  To hypnotize oneself relaxation is a vital process.  How to relax and open your mind to suggestions is one of the first things that you will be taught when being instructed in self-hypnosis.  Key phrases, or suggestions you will also be taught which are geared toward stopping you from smoking that you must tell yourself repetitively.  Extremely important in the process to quit smoking, you will also be taught visualization.

Through self-hypnosis visualization you have many benefits.  You are more able to easily perform a real thing, by mentally imagining that you are performing an activity.  You may find that you can create pictures of yourself as if you are watching yourself on television, when you first practice visualization.  This process is known as dissociated visualization.  Because you are imagining how you would like to be smoke-free, this technique is an effective tool in the path to helping you stop smoking.  It will make the desired activity more of inevitability, once imagining you in that activity as if it is a real event achieved.

You must become clean about the fact that you are going to quit which is the first step in using visualization to help you stop smoking.  You will no longer be a smoker is the intended outcome in this process.  You can think of images and ideas using your natural creativity and imagination that would appeal to you emotionally.  The more emotionally charged a hypnotic suggestion, the more likely you will respond quickly to it which is the reason why these emotions are the key to your success.  “Vibrant,” “sparkling,” “thrilling,” “wonderful,” “powerful,” “radiant,” “loving,” “generous,” “exciting,” “delightful” and “beautiful” are words you can use that engage emotions.  The more dramatic and vivid your image is, the more effective it will be since visualizations are suggestions.  You can first image the tobacco smoke.  Then you can image that it looks, smells and taste very bad.  To depict how bad it is you can use associations with the smoke.  You can use common negative things that are used as association to cigarette smoke is a smelly shoe or garbage.

For most people using self-hypnosis and visualization to help you quit smoking really works.  You will find by using your imagination to create desired change is simple, effective and powerful.  You are able to see yourself after the change has occurred and more easily meet your goal of being a non-smoker by using visualization.
